New Orleans will see a partial eclipse , but it won't turn dark like in the small path of totality.
Oklahoma City/Edmond is also not in the path of totality so we have to journey 3-4 hours on the back roads of SE Oklahoma to Broken Bow, where we have rented a cabin for 2 nights. Like any good capitalist, the cabin owners have jacked up the rental rates by 200-300% knowing the demand would be great. The near total darkness in Broken Bow is predicted to last 4 minutes & 13 seconds, which should be quite a once in a lifetime experience. Since the influx of millions of people into areas that normally are sparsely populated will undoubtedly overwhelm cell tower capacity and cell service/internet access will be impacted. So I am not likely to resume normal posting until Wednesday.
As you can see, FOX 8 has issued a First Alert for Wednesday's storms. Look at the SPC outlooks. The top graphic is valid for Monday with a level 2 severe risk centered on Texas.
The next two are valid for Tuesday and Wednesday. I'm pretty sure the severe risk will be shifted over us based on the outlook maps. So pay attention late Tuesday into Wednesday. I'll try to have some pics of what total darkness looks like at 1:44 in the afternoon. Stay tuned!
