I use the FOX 8 Weather page for many of my graphics, but they have technical problems resulting in graphics that are several days old. If you want an updated 7 day, you'll have to go to other places. Here's what I can show you that are updated. Yesterday's cold front has blasted through the Gulf and has pushed through Cuba into the Bahamas. You can see the cold air clouds just off our coast.
Once the surface winds shift back to the east by Monday, clouds and moisture will return. Why will that happen? Because the upper pattern will lift the East coast trough back northward as the upper trough reforms over the West. You can see how storms are lining up over the Pacific.
That will cut off any more cold Arctic intrusions into the lower 48 for the next 10-14 days. Look for most of the nation outside of the Rockies having above normal/average temperatures going into the new year. Traveling by car to family across the South, you'll encounter no icy conditions.
The core of the current Arctic high is shifting to our north and east and that's where the coldest temperatures are located.
It's already warmer in Denver & South Dakota than here. I'm betting the winds stay up enough tonight to keep the South Shore from any frost. The North Shore should be in the 29-33 degree range. I have my tropical plants inside my He-Shed and I'm not covering anything else. I saw some of your comments talking about what a process it is to protect our plants during freezes. I try to minimize that process. There are signs that a colder Arctic blast will reach us during the first week of the New Year. Before then, several weak disturbances will bring us some showers and milder air. Dense fog is likely to become a concern by Monday night into much of next week. Stay tuned!
