My house saw upper 30s when I went out to pick up my paper this morning. Under bright sunshine, it moderated this afternoon as we approached 60. With the high now to our east, any turn to the SE will bring back some low clouds on Friday and signal a huge warm up for this weekend into next week. In fact, it will feel Spring-like as the muggies return. I have moved all my plants back outside my He-Shed.
You can see the return flow of higher dew points/moisture over south Texas and that muggy feel will arrive here over the weekend. Note it's warmer in Oklahoma City than here. We'll be back into the 60s tomorrow and 70s this weekend into next week.
For the short term, the deep upper trough over the eastern states will lift out giving us a mainly zonal (west to east) flow across the South.
The GFS model takes the East Coast trough back into Canada with the current low over California streaking eastward into Illinois by Sunday. That cuts off any cold coming southward.
The top graphic is from this morning while the bottom is valid for Sunday. Our next real cold blast comes down for Christmas weekend. Here's the forecast upper pattern for Saturday Dec. 21st.
If this proves to be reality, it will bring down another Arctic blast just before Christmas. For us to see snow, the axis of that trough would have to be farther to our west. You can always dream for that! Stay tuned!
