I was watching Bruce last night at 10 PM where he showed how yesterday heavy rain band developed on the North Shore. He also had a rain total forecast for today that didn't have any excessive rain totals. Zack updated that this morning with the rain forecast graphic training across the South Shore with a band of 3-5"+ totals. Let's check out what has happened today.
The difference today is the band of heavy showers/storms is "progressive" meaning it is moving and not stalled over the same track. The rainfall is very heavy, but totals should be more like 1-2".
West of a line from Bogalusa to Hammond to Houma, the rains have ended as a strong cold front near us.
Temperatures fall from the 70s into the 50s behind the cold front with lots of 40s from Dallas northward.
The front should not stall as there is another upper disturbance diving down over the northern Plains that will provide the push to keep the front moving. The air not only is noticeably colder, but much drier as dew points drop from near 70 into the 20s and 30s.
IF you are dressed for it, tomorrow will feel great as the sun will be back out. Brisk northerly winds will add to the chill so that is why you'll need some heavier outer gear. As I mentioned yesterday, this coming cold should be no worse that the last, meaning expect some freezing temps north of Lake P.
I probably will bring my tropical potted plants inside my He-Shed for tomorrow night. There should be no problem for tonight. The rains will be ending within the hour for NOLA, but south & east along the MS coast, you still have 2-3 hours of heavy rains to get through. Common sense applies. Don't drive in flooded streets. By 7 PM, most everyone will be dry. Stay tuned!
