Several weeks ago, I mentioned the weather often flips from way too warm to way too cold. That has not happened locally as we did go below normal/average for a few days, but we have not seen the bitter cold like the Great Lakes & Northeast. That's where we find snow on the ground with more coming. It's still frigid over New England, but you can see the milder temps creeping northward.
Green Bay has risen to freezing so the Saints at least don't have to play in the bitter cold of several days ago. Some light snow is still falling, but it should be ending before game time. I trust the field has been covered?!!! This snow is from a weak fast moving clipper system.
Bad enough the Saints have so many starters out, but the weather will be a factor just because we're a "Dome Team". Packers 31, Saints 10. Many folks leave NOLA to find snow at Christmas. This year you have to travel to the mountains or north of Chicago or to New England. All this is due to the upper pattern that brings in milder Pacific air. It won't be record warmth here, but 10-15 degrees above average/normal.
There are several weak upper lows moving across the lower 48, but we have no major Winter storms except off the West Coast.
Along with warmer air comes the Gulf muggies. Gone are our dew points in the 20s and 30s (very dry air), replaced by the 50s today and 60s for the rest of this week. You can see that moisture on this afternoon's satellite views.
As the low-level moisture deepens, dense fog could become an issue later this week.
Since our normal/average high for late December is 62-65, we'll be well above that into next week. Getting into the Christmas Spirit will be difficult when it feels Spring-like. Finally,
There's an interesting feature just east of Florida. IF we were in August or September, this would be something to watch. But the recent cold fronts have cooled down waters not allowing any showers to bubble up. I'm really bored if I find these features "interesting"! Stay tuned!
