Next Arctic Surge Weaker, Slow Climb Back To Normal, More Freezing Nights

Whew! I'm tired of watching all the channels cover this unusual weather event.  Only because I've walked in their shoes do I know how tired they are.  I salute all local media, especially my home FOX 8, for keeping the information highway open so people remain safe.  It's been a long two days, fun for many, and creative for several of us "senior citizens"   As most of us found out, how do you shovel when you have no snow shovel? You go to your garden tools.

That's what 87-year-old Carroll Ledet did to clear his back patio.  No snow shovel, no problem.  Look at Frosty the Snowman's shovel.

Yep, it's called Cajun Engineering.  Give us a problem & we'll find a solution!  But most of this event was about kids, family & having fun.  These are from the Ledet Family playing in da white stuff.

Of course, the bottom pic shows Frosty after having too much to drink!  Once-in-a-lifetime event. Hope you all were able to enjoy it?  Thanks to Uncle Mark Ledet for sending me the photos.  He's down at his southern home in Puerto Vallarta where it's sunny & 72.  Poor thing.  Might have to wear a sweater tonight at dinner?!!!  OK, back to weather. Our concern tonight?  Another hard freeze on BOTH sides of the Lake. Skies are clear & winds are light.

16-26 may not be cold enough?   I will start dripping my water around 9-10 PM.  Another Arctic surge is pouring into the lower 48, but it is far weaker/less cold than the current one.

I'm not seeing the 25-35 below-zero readings of last week.

In fact, the below zero line remains up in Canada.  But until the upper pattern changes, our warm up will be painfully slow.

Our cold misery is shared all the way into central & south Florida where Tampa is 42 & Miami only 57.  That's cold for them!

The snow print on the daylight/visible satellite view was impressive.  Note the brighter white west of BTR and more so south of Lake P.

The roads should get better by midday Thursday and we're back into the 60s for next week.  Finally, leave it to The Weather Channel to connect the Hurricane Season to this snow event.

It snowed where 4 out of 5 storms made landfall.  Many years ago, my staff researched past snows and the previous or following hurricane seasons.  There were some connections, but there also were many with no connection.  Does it matter?  Geez, let's enjoy and not worry.  June will get here soon enough.  Stay tuned!
