I try to read your comments to my post each day. Many are funny, many are educational telling us how you're coping while a few are always negative. Gets one wondering why they bother following us? The various examples of our "Cajun Engineering" were great. Whatever it takes, we'll get the job done. Folks up north are laughing at how long we're locked in. Hey, we've been closed down for weeks & months after a bad hurricane & that is understandable, But to have our interstates & businesses closed for three days? Our problem was this snowstorm left more down in one day than all the snows in the past 80 years combined! We live in the sub-tropics and it's not practical to have the equipment like up north. Here's how we clear/plow the roads here.
It's no wonder most interstates & the Causeway remain closed. Finally several snow plows from Arkansas arrive this morning.
Yeah, I know, 2 plows and miles & miles of interstates highways. What's our best way to clear roads? The Sun! Finally we have risen above freezing and highs might reach the mid-upper 40s in spots. That should melt any ice on the roads allowing the I-10 & Causeway to reopen after 4 PM. Hope so. Here's temps at the noon hour.
You can almost see who received the heavier snowfall. Look at McComb & Bogalusa as they near 50 compared to some 30s lingering south of Lake P. Fortunately, the next cold air surge is headed to the Great Lakes & Northeast.
As the surface high drifts to our east, milder air will spread in from the west where south Texas is 50+.
As we slowly warm into the weekend, the return flow off the Gulf will bring back clouds and the threat of dense sea fog.
Clouds are our friend at night, but during the day hinder the warming.
Gosh, it's encouraging to see 70 for next Wednesday! But the melting process will take time and many roads remain ice covered and dangerous. Actually it's not the road surface that's the problem. It's the many bridges that are ice covered. Patience Gang. Let's play "doctor" and have some patience this afternoon. Finally, I had to go into my attic this morning and found this. Snow had blown in through the air vent.
Some scooping & scraping and I had most of the snow/ice cleaned up. Not sure if the melting snow would have caused any ceiling issues, but I wasn't going to find out. suggest you check your attics this PM. I cleared out a path to my fountain and got it running again. Now the birds can come back!
FYI, we got down to 21 this morning at MSY tying the record low for today. Another one for the record books! Stay tuned!
