Texas Beware! Cantore Is In Houston. Tuesday Travel Treacherous I-10 Texas to Florida

During Hurricane season, if you see Jim Cantore show up, it usually means TWC meteorologists determine that is where the eye/center impacts of the storm will be. Well, Cantore is in Houston, but TWC graphics indicate the worst/heaviest snows will be to the east over Louisiana.  I'm thinking Jim is in Houston since impacts will show up there first, the population is the greatest & their vast amount of highways make them very vulnerable to snow/ice storms.

Clearly, their own graphics have Houston on the western edge of the snowfall.  I have seen nothing to change my thinking to my morning post.

IF models are correct, this will be the heaviest snowfall during most of your lifetime, unless you were here in 1895. Nah, that would make you 130!

So what could change your snow dream into a nightmare?   My only thought would be the sheer volume of the Arctic cold, dry air overwhelms any Gulf moisture limiting snow amounts to 1-2" or less.  Let me show you the factors that should make this snow historical.  We begin with the upper air setup that has a re-enforcing surge of Arctic air pouring over the Rockies and Central Plains.

Our snow tomorrow will NOT be caused by any storm coming in from the Pacific, but instead will be the forcing caused by this next surge of Arctic Air undercutting the over-running moisture coming out of the Gulf.

Temperatures are 15-20 below zero in North Dakota with single digits down into Colorado, Nebraska & Iowa.  These are at 3 PM when it's supposed to be the warmest part of the day!

With extremely low dew points, that guarantees all of our precipitation will be snow.  My concern after the snow leaves will be pipe-bursting frigid temperatures on Wednesday & Thursday mornings for BOTH sides of the Lake.  Look at the numbers from our local NWS office.

Teens on the North Shore will require full precautions with 18-24 south of the Lake requiring the same precautions.  But remember the PIPE RULE.

With a cloud cover already moving in and temps near 40, we should not have any water pipe issues tonight.  Make that decision before you go to bed, but don't run your water before then.

So we have 3 really cold nights to get through before a real warm up arrives by the weekend.  Finally, I went to say goodbye to one of my neighbors today.

I moved in 2 doors from Edith Sassone back in 2006.  She was already 80+, but I found she had more energy than most 20-30-year-olds. She loved Mardi Gras & her beloved Saints and was blessed with 60 years of marriage to her late Jack.  I will try to keep her energy as I approach my 80 year mark.  Tonight I'll raise up my chardonnay and Salute Miss Edith...RIP Darling at age 97! Stay tuned!
