Yesterday I mentioned my time in Dayton, Ohio (1973-78) working as Chief Meteorologist at WDTN-TV2. I might have mentioned this before (forgive me, oldtimers!), but there I met & worked with Nancy Cartwright. She was a young girl in her late teens who did "voices" and thought she could add some fun in the afternoon drive time with DJ Ken Warren & I. I left Dayton in the Spring of 1978 to "replace some guy named Nash"!!! on WVUE-TV Ch. 8. I didn't know Nancy also left that summer for Hollywood where she did many voices for several shows. She struck gold in the late 80s. Perhaps some of you have hear her? She's the voice of Bart Simpson! So honored she included me in her book! Thanks Nancy!
But back to reality as NOLA gets ready to host the Super Bowl. I mentioned there is still plenty of Wintertime cold air across all of Canada. But there is no East coast trough that would bring the chill down to the Gulf Coast. IF you believe model guidance at 2 weeks, here's the forecast for Feb 16th. That'll chill us down!
Even though it's below zero, the Canadian cold is not as bad as two weeks ago. That chill can't come very far south with the current flow. The current pattern (Zonal west to east) will keep us very warm through this Sunday's game(Near 80!)
Just the sheer weight of the Arctic air will bring it down over the northern states and the temperature contrasts are extreme.
Wow, west Texas is near 90 while northern Montana is 10 below. Burr! Perhaps you could feel the muggies are back as dew points surged into the 60s.
That will result in fog issues causing travel problems each day until our next front arrives NEXT Monday.
Each day as the sun's angle gets higher and the length of daylight longer, it will be harder and harder to see a freeze threat (let alone another snow!). Let's enjoy our Spring preview, but know Winter is far from over. Stay tuned!
