Saturday Severe Risk Much Lower, Colder On Sunday

During my 40+ years in broadcasting, I tried to lower the anxiety levels and not over hype any threats.  There are times (Katrina) when you have to hit the hype button, but for the most part my goal was not to "cry wolf".  The last severe threat (Levels 2 & 3) lived up to the hype as several tornadoes touched down, destroying homes & camps.  The severe threat coming tomorrow looks way less and that's confirmed by SPC and our local NWS offices.

As you can see, there are no level 2 & 3s anywhere.  Level one (marginal) means severe weather is not impossible, but it's not likely.  So let's do what I always say when issues come our way...PAY ATTENTION, and have the FOX 8 Weather App ready in case any warnings are issued.  The cause for tomorrow's possible storms is again tied to the upper air flow. There is an elongated upper trough over the Rockies that will shift across the South this weekend.

The 3 graphics following the satellite view are for Saturday, Sunday & Monday mornings.  You can see how progressive (fast moving) this system will be.  I believe the severe risk stays low is due to the upper trough being "positively tilted" (SW to NE) as opposed to a "negatively tilted" (NW to SE) trough.  I trust SPC and believe IF they felt the danger was higher, we would see higher risk levels.

There is nothing there yet as radars are quiet.  However, you see the higher dew points (60+) surging out of the Gulf.  That's enough low level moisture to fuel some showers on Saturday into early Sunday.

Gone are the clear skies as clouds are back for this weekend.

As a reminder, Ch. 8 is transitioning to a new building and their online graphics are running late updating.  Once they are in the new location, they will switch to brand new graphic delivery system.  This extended is from their noon program.  Enjoy your weekend, keep the rain gear handy and stay tuned!
