Saturday Storms Looking More Likely, SPC Cautions Deep South

It is not often that the Storm Prediction Center issues a level 4 severe risk 2 days ahead of time.  Our local NWS office has put out some nice graphics detailing what appears to be a stormy Saturday,  In their discussion they even point out that SPC must be fairly confident to place a level 4 this far ahead of time.

The energy to support a severe outbreak is still back west of California where widespread rain & snows are making them feel winterish.  The first severe outbreak will be to our north and west on Friday (top graphic) spreading eastward for Saturday (bottom graphic).

March & April are typically the months for severe weather outbreaks as the surging warmth clashes with retreating winter cold.

There clearly is a huge temperature contrast between the chilly West coast & the warm Central Plains.  Once the low level Gulf moisture reaches farther to the north, all ingredients will be in place for widespread severe storms.

We easily reached 80+ today and that should be the case for Friday & Saturday.  Cooler and drier air arrives for Sunday.  Our "pay attention" day will be on Saturday here.  SPC forecasters are very good at what they do.  We have another day to watch it.  Our fishing trip was frustrating since we caught over 60 fish but could only keep 13.  So many throwbacks should mean later this Spring, fishing should be really good.  Stay tuned!
