Tropical Storm Chantal's peak winds reached 60 MPH before she moved inland well NE of Charleston. Her circulation is moving into North Carolina as a big rainmaker. Hopefully, the slow motion will not cause the kind of flooding that Texas endured from a slow-moving upper disturbance earlier this week..
The rest of the Tropics have gone quiet as TUTT lows rule. TUTT (Tropical Upper Tropospheric Troughs) Lows typically increase shear limiting any development.
Otherwise, across the nation, it's pretty basic summertime.
As usual, there are several getting hammered with heavy rains and vivid lightning.
Without any tropical threats, the next 7-10 days and beyond will be the same.
I'm hoping this quiet pattern lasts as coming up in 2 1/2 weeks is the 97th International Grand Isle Tarpon Rodeo.
Even if you don't fish, you can register to win the $10,000 grand prize that will be drawn on Saturday night. Just go to tarponrodeo.org for your opportunity to win. There will be many other prizes awarded to those that do fish. Regardless, it will be a great time to come down to Grand Isle for food, fun (crab races), and entertainment (local bands). Stay tuned!
