Getting Fishing gear, Heat Wave Coming,, Tropical Wave Next Weekend

With the Grand Isle Tarpon Rodeo beginning next Thursday, today I took a ride down with Captain Hylton to Shell Beach to gather my fishing gear. Stopped in at Blackie Campos Marina and was happy to renew old acquaintances with the "Gang" including FJ & Robert.  On the way back, Captain Hylton took me to an old favorite, Rocky & Carlos.  For the price, NO ONE can beat the quantity of food they serve you & the consistency is always the same...Delicious!

I've been plugging the Tarpon Rodeo for weeks because I'm a long time board member, plus I have been the M.C. of the awards ceremony since 1985.  I have met so many wonderful people from south Louisiana and feel honored to continue a tradition dating back 97 years.  Remember, it's not too late to register your name into the drawing for the $10,000 Grand Prize on Saturday night.  Just go to tarponrodeo.org.  You don't need to fish or be present to win that $10K top prize..  Now all I have to do is make the weather perfect.  Let's begin with what I know. The remains of 93 L are gone.  It will NOT rotate around high pressure and come back around.

What will happen is energy from a cold front up north will combine with a tropical wave well off the East coast. and likely move into the Gulf by Wednesday.  An upper heat dome will build in and should block most moisture from coming northward.  Here's the GFS upper forecast beginning today and moving every other day.

By Monday afternoon, we are firmly under the upper high, so expect mostly dry & very hot temps. By Wednesday, the high strengthens with an "inverted trough" (tropical wave) moving into the eastern Gulf.

By Saturday, that wave churns into Texas.

So the key questions are 1) with the wave staying so far offshore, will it develop?   2) How will that impact SE LA/MS?   Obviously, there is nothing there yet.

So rather than jump on the hype bandwagon, I'll wait and watch to see what, if anything, develops.  My thinking is nothing but another strong wave.

In the short term, a few showers popped up today, but the trend will be fewer & fewer tomorrow into next week.

As always, slow movement results in some folks getting drenched.

You can see the trend in the extended.  Less rain coverage means hotter temperatures.  The end of the week MIGHT see increased rain chances.  That will depend on the strength & location of the upper high.  Enjoy your Sunday & stay tuned!
