Tropical Snooze May Be Ending, Texas Act Of God

Even though we are through 3 named storms, the 2025 season, ACE-wise, is one of the slowest on record.  But signs are showing things are about to change as we approach mid-July.  It begins by seeing more tropical waves coming across Africa.  Two such waves appear to have some rotation.

The northernmost wave is dealing with lots of Saharan dust that will limit development.  Models are not showing any development with the southern wave either.  However, NHC is now highlighting an area closer to home.

There is nothing there yet, and I believe NHC feels an upper low east of Florida is worth watching. Another upper low is south of us, moving towards Texas with an upper high drifting westward over the SE.

Even if the upper low doesn't develop into a surface system late next week, WPC predicts a large swath of heavy rains from Florida across the northern Gulf.  No model really develops a surface feature, but as always, it's something to watch next week. Locally, not much changes for Sunday.

Where it rains, folks get some brief cooling. Storms again on Sunday will be slow movers, so brief, heavy rains might cause more street flooding.

As the weak upper high drifts westward over us, rain chances should decrease with temps soaring into the mid-upper 90s.  Late week will see the surge of moisture east of Florida come our way, causing us to be less hot.  Finally, a lot has been reported about the tragic Texas floods.  They have happened in the past and will happen again.

What bothers me is all the folks wanting to find some BLAME.  Hey Gang, this was an Act of God, just like Katrina was here.  Our Creator allows evil to happen for a reason.  We are not smart enough to understand HIS will.  However, like we did from Katrina, we learn lessons so evil doesn't repeat itself. We rebuilt levees correctly, installing better pumping stations.  Rather than blaming decisions not made in the past, focus on the future.  Hopefully, Texas learns to install sirens around campgrounds and don't rebuild in flood plains.  Higher ground may be farther from the river, but it's safer! The timing couldn't have been worse, coming during the middle of the night.  But let's learn from the past so we don't repeat mistakes/tragedies in the future.  Stop the blame game and start finding solutions.  Pray for the 129 souls lost to an Act of God.  Stay tuned!
