As has been the case all hurricane season, another storm has formed well out to sea in the Atlantic. As with the past storms, it's likely to follow the previous 3 systems and make the turn to the north away from the U.S. coastline. But that's not all there is to watch as a strong wave over Puerto Rico is likely to develop into our next named storm for this weekend. Hurricane Gabrielle is racing towards Europe, while the arrows point out the new storm and Invest 94 L
The color views have clusters of storms, but neither looks very impressive. Still, NHC has named Humberto our 7th Tropical Storm of this season. Her track might affect Bermuda, but not the U.S.
Recon aircraft did investigate the wave near Puerto Rico, but found no low-level circulation. However, the European model brings her near the East Coast by NEXT weekend.
Bottom line, neither of these systems will get into the Gulf as the Gulf remains a hostile environment with an upper low over the SE Gulf and an approaching cold front that will sweep in drier air for this weekend.
There isn't much cold air behind this front, but it will take away the humidity.
Behind the front, the dew points drop into the 50s & 60s, sweeping away the 70s across us now.
This is the first widespread soaking rain in over 3 weeks. It has knocked down temps after being 90+ again.
