Looking for Cold Air, Tropics Staying Active Except Gulf & Caribbean

Gosh, it gets old talking about lingering summer-like heat, but most of the country is warm except for the western states. The reason for that is obvious on the western satellite view where I've drawn the upper flow pattern that has a low in Nevada and a strong upper ridge over the central & eastern states.  That has brought chilly air to the west and near record warmth to the east.

There will be some slight shifts in this pattern into next week, but I don't see an eastern upper trough developing that would bring us a real cold front.  Without cold fronts, that keeps interest on the Tropics up and NHC is highlighting several areas.

I've placed circles where I see some rotation so let's begin in the Atlantic and work our way westward. there certainly is a swirl east of the Islands, but it has no storms with it.

The southern Caribbean has clusters of T-Storms, but there is no concentration or rotation.  Back closer to home, NHC has a slight chance for development east of Florida.

You really have to look closely to find any hints of weak lows and no model develops anything into next week. So let's focus on the Northern Gulf. Currently, there are no concentrated clusters of storms, but models hint at increasing moisture along the coast spreading inland over the weekend.

Zack showed us the Sunday morning forecast that places a band of heavy rain right across the South Shore. IF that proves to be reality, rain totals could approach 1-3", but note, the North Shore sees very little. The visible satellite has a large cluster of storms off our coast with increasing wave heights off the mouth of the River.  On radar, there appears to be hints at some banding.

However, NHC is ignoring it probably because no model develops it.  It's an area I'll be watching over the weekend.  NWS has this graphic on their website.

So even though NHC doesn't point it out, our local NWS office does.  It could make for a very wet Sunday.

Until the upper pattern changes, we will not see any real cold fronts for the next week.

The less hot temps for Saturday & Sunday will be due to more clouds and some showers.  I may do a podcast tomorrow, but we really don't have much to talk about. That's why I have guests with TWC's Jim Cantore coming up next Wednesday.

But to see & hear Jim, you'll need to sign up to my podcast.  The cost is only $2/month or 7 cents a day.at bobbreck.com.  It's so easy, plus it goes where you go with your phone.  Give it a try.  Enjoy your weekend and stay tuned!
