Turn Out The Lights. Lorenzo Struggling, West Coast Soaker, Hot, Dry Southeast

As I mentioned yesterday, I would have the Fat Lady sing to signal the end of our Hurricane Season across the northern Gulf.  The official end of the Hurricane Season runs through Nov. 30th, but with cold fronts coming and the westerlies dipping farther to the south, any late season storm that does form should be swept well to our south & east keeping the tropical threats away from Texas and the northern Gulf.  So even though the tropics have a named storm and the GFS brings a Hurricane into Cuba by the end of the month, I am VERY confident we have survived the 2025 season without any tropical concerns.

Satellite views clearly show Lorenzo is struggling to survive way out in the Atlantic.  He may not be around as upper wind shear is limiting development.

So as Lorenzo heads out to sea, the Gulf and Caribbean remain quiet.  However, the GFS is at it again trying to bring a Hurricane into the Caribbean in two weeks.

The top view is valid for Tuesday Oct. 28th with the bottom valid for Thursday Oct. 30th.  This is two weeks away and we will have several more cold fronts sweep through us before then.  I am confident enough to have the Fat Lady sing on my Podcast tonight, but you can't see that unless you sign up for my podcast at bobbreck.com.

For $2/month. it's the best buy in town.  Future guests will be Bruce Katz & Zack Fradella from FOX 8 weather along with John Snell, Meg Gatto and former voice of the Saints Jim Henderson. But you have to subscribe to enjoy seeing your favorite TV personalities.

A strong storm is bringing California an early start to their rainy season.  Los Angeles has received 1.30", which is double the average total for the whole month.  That upper low has also brought down some chilly air with highs in the 40s & 50s.   But not to the Southeast where the upper high keeps us hot & dry.

With the sun angle getting lower and the days shorter, it is harder to get to temps 90+.  Zack Fradella had this graphic this morning.

We're well beyond the average date of the last 90 degree day.  Hard to believe back in the 60s we had our last 90 on August 16th, but that was before our current warming cycle began.

The next couple of days we'll flirt with 90 as a weak front approaches for the weekend.  It may bring us a few showers, but little in the way of cooler air.  Remember, tonight's podcast we'll sing "Turn out the Lights, the party's over".  Go sign up to hear, plus you can watch past podcasts including one with Jim Cantore.  Stay tuned!
