Goodbye October...

October is typically one of our driest months historically. Not this year as the 9.44 inches in Kenner (nearly 12 " at FOX 8) makes this the 2nd wettest October on record. Only 1985 (Juan) had more rainfall (13.20). The next 7 days look dry and mild with a much stronger push of cold air arriving towards the end of next week.

Tropical Storm Noel (Knoll) has been over Cuba all day and is barely a tropical storm tonight. He has started the long predicted movement to the north that should keep him east of Florida. This is the 14th named storm of the season making it above the long term average, however, when you combine storm intensity with duration (9 of the 14 lasted 2 days or less), this is one of the least active seasons since the late 70s. Since the Gulf waters have cooled down, our next concern will be when does "FOG season" start? A basic rule is this...Lake P. & Gulf water temps have to be below 60 for fog to form. The Lake's temp was 63 today while the Gulf along the coast is 70-75. Not quite there yet. Need several more strong cold fronts.
