Fall across the Deep South really is a special time of the year. Oh, we don't see the colors in the trees that our Northern friends enjoy, but to experience the outdoors with pleasant temperatures and low humidities is truly a delight, especially after enduring our summer heat for the past 6 months. As our Northern friends pull out their boots, long underwear, hoods & coats...we enjoy mild days and comfy cool nights. We know the cold is coming, but we also know our winters are seldom brutal. Let's get outside this weekend and allow Mother Nature to fully delight our senses.
Looking ahead...we are about 4 -5 weeks from getting to the time of year when freezing temperatures become a possible problem. You may want to check out your house & yard to see what you'll want to do to protect your property should a hard frreeze threaten. I have my outside faucet covers ready and my pipe insulation tubing that I use to protect my citrus trees. It has been several years since we 've been hit with a major cold outbreak. Since much of the Midwest & Eastern states have had a very warm Fall so far, I would expect to see a shift to much colder air for December and January. How much of that chill reaches us will depend on the position of the Jet Stream. I actually am ready to wear some of my sweaters & leather jacket.

Just in case, get ready for a long, hard winter. We're not as warm as our people down south to say, Miami, Florida, but we don't have to deal with brutal winters that the Northerners usually face.
