A deep east coast trough is dragging the coldest air of the season down to the Gulf south tonight. Some temps in the 30s are possible on the N-Shore with 40s away from Lake P. on the S-Shore. If MSY drops to 49, this will be the coolest since March 31st of this year. It will feel colder because of brisk north winds making it feel like it's in the 30s. Sweaters and jackets will be required. As winds decrease Saturday & Sunday mornings, the Northshore will approach freezing with widespread frost likely. Protect your plants and pets. With Lake P. still 70+ degrees, the Southshore will not be that chilly. However, areas away from the Lake could see upper 30s Sunday morning. The chill is building over northern Canada as temps have dipped below zero. We'll warm up next week before another cold blast pours south by the middle of the month.
Tomas has become better organized tonight and is nearing hurricane force. NHC takes the storm over western Haiti tomorrow, but they increase his forward speed meaning the duration of heavy rains should be shortened. Regardless, it appears some serious flooding is likely along with mudslides.
