Wow...What a Day !

So here I was minding my own business at 4:40 PM getting ready for FOX 8 at 5 PM when NWS issues a TORNADO WARNING for Northern St. Tammany. C'mon, just some garden variety T-Storms around. But noooo, Kim Vaughn points out the couplet on the VIPIR radar velocity and a "hook" developing on the reflectivity. Yikes...could it really be a tornado. Decided to go on air and stay on air for the next 20 minutes until we began receiving reports that the radar signature was correct. We had a tornado on the ground just west of Bush. Just this "little tornado" (rated EF3 by NWS) gives me renewed respect for those weathercasters who had to stay on-air for hours during the Tuscaloosa & Joplin tornadoes. Thank goodness we don't have to deal with those types of storms very often.

This holiday weekend looks to turn hot and dry as an upper high builds over the SE. Look for daily highs 92-95 threatening some records.

I check in on Dr. Jeff Masters' blog now and then, and it has become evident to me that if there was no bad weather, he'd have nothing to talk about. The meteorologist wannabes that populate his blog also seem to follow this trend. It's like they pray for bad weather, especially tropical weather formation. It seems to stimulate them - gives them a rush. My comment to them: "Chill."
