Nothing Could be Finer, But to be in Carolina...

There is nothing I can tell you that you haven't already heard about Irene. All Computer models keep her out of the Gulf. The deep east coast trough SHOULD turn her to the north just far enough east of FL to keep major impacts offshore. Irene is aiming for the SC/NC border then on to NYC/Long Island & then New England. She will cause considerable damage as she will affect the major metro areas of the Northeast. Could she be the next billion dollar weather event? Probably, but we again dodged a biggie. Will our luck continue? At least for the next 7-10 days as more east coast troughs are predicted. However, Joe Bastardi indicates that the Gulf could be the target of the system coming off of Africa tonight, which is still 2 weeks away. Yep, the same Joe who said last week a "hurricane frenzy" was coming. If Irene hits the U.S., Joe will have 1 down with 4-5 to go. Stay tuned!

In the short term, a heat advisory is back. No big deal for us since we are acclimated to 95-100 degree heat for the past month. Only relief will come from a few spotty PM T-Storms.

The wave coming off Africa will take over 2 weeks to get to the GOM. Many things can happen in that amount of time. There is a whole lot of coastline in front of anything that far away. Relax and enjoy the heat.

I'd hardly call it a "frenzy," Bob.

The other week you agreed with him saying his logic was sound.

The UK model shows that same system coming off of Africa turning north and heading out to sea long before it ever gets close to the east coast. I thoroughly enjoy your blog Bob, but is it really worth mentioning what "could" happen in two weeks. I mean if the the five-day margin of error is hundreds of miles, what's the margin of error 14 days out?

Well, hate to see ole Irene go anywhere around land but especially glad it is sparing the Yucatan as I leave in 4 days for Cozumel and Progresso. I hear there will be lots more people down there because of cruise ship itinerary changes (i.e., skipping Bahamas islands and replacing them with Cozumel and Progresso). That's ok though...the more the merrier! Thanks Bob for your constant reassurance where our weather is concerned....BON VOYAGE!

Happy about the news, but I will not let my guard down until November!

Joe's not at it again already?

He should let Irene do its thing before making more predictions.

In reference to the two waves being monitored, Jeff Master's blog states "at present, the long-range models are showing that both of these disturbances will not be a threat to any land areas over the next seven days, and will probably move too far north to ever be a threat to land." In whom shall we place our confidence?

dont take either one's word, after watching the last couple of years the only thing either one of them seem to get right is the name of the storm. masters is a global warming fanatic the blames everything on carbon, kinda like hid bud al gore,,and bastardi, well is name says it all.
