NHC is indicating an area of low pressure over the Yucatan tonight has a 70% chance of becoming Trop. Storm Jerry in the next 2-4 days. A Hurricane Hunter is scheduled to investigate it tomorrow if necessary. The current environment over the Gulf is quite hostile, but wind shear is expected to relax by this weekend. Most models have whatever forms developing slowly and drifting towards the coast of Mexico. A piece of energy is likely to break off and surge northward as a cold front staggers down to the Gulf coast. The unknowns are 1) timing of the front, 2) development, if any, of the Gulf Low and 3) how much tropical moisture mixes in with the front. Bottom line, we will get much wetter by late Friday into Saturday, hopefully drying out for LSU Saturday night & for the Saint’s game on Sunday. Tonight’s VIPIR run brings us some heavy rains Saturday AM with the heaviest heading to our east for Sunday & Monday. Since the front is likely to stall over the Gulf, things could stay interesting all next week? Stay tuned!
In the short term, we’ll stay way too hot with a few spotty storms. Fall arrives Sunday at 3:44 PM.
