Wow, I thought our local & state officials did a wonderful job of taking action based on the National Weather Service's forecast regarding our sleet & snow event. It seems that didn't happen in Atlanta or Birmingham. In Birmingham, one long-time TV weathercaster issued an apology for his wrong forecast. In Georgia, the public officials (Governor & Atlanta Mayor) blamed the NWS for not warning them in time. However, looking back at facts show the NWS WARNING came out at 3:38 AM for up to 2" of snow, yet schools were not called off. Shameful, as thousands of children were trapped on buses in a gridlock as folks tried to get home by mid-afternoon. I hope the people of Georgia & Alabama remember these same officials at next election time. At least the TV guy had the courage to admit he blew it.
Locally, a HUGE warm up is coming...BUT we have to get thru a hard freeze over night into early Thursday. People are saying they can't remember when it's been this cold. The reason is easy. The past 2 Winters had little or no freezing nights on the South Shore. Tonight will mark the 9th time this MONTH where we dipped to 32 or below. When it comes to weather, memories are short.

Bob, PLEASE give me (us!) your opinion and thoughts on this...!
This WORRIES me... Am I the only one who has put this together from RECENT events and memory...? In 2004, we had snow on Christmas day... and if memory serves me, had a day or 2 of SLEET the winter of 2004... WHAT DID HE WHAVE THE SUMMER OF 2005? KATRINA!!!! OK, NOW... IN 2012, WE HAD A LITTLE SNOW FALL HERE ON THE NORTHSHORE THAT WINTER... WHAT DID THAT FOLLOW UP WITH THE SUMMER OF 2013...? ISSAC...! Issac was no where near as bad as Katrina, he was only a small Cat 1, but he SAT OVER US FOR 3 DAYS!!!
I gotta ask Bob and whoever else might know this one... IS THERE A TIE IN WITH WINTERS DOWN HERE WHERE WE HAVE RARE SNOW/SLEET EVENTS, AND HURRICANES THE VERY NEXT SUMMER??!?!
Seems every time we get snow, folks try to tie the event into the next hurricane season. What I have found is there is ZERO connection. For every snow year that is followed by bad hurricanes, I can show you many snow years(1962,'89) followed by no storms. There is no connection, good or bad.
Isaac was in 2012, not 2013, and followed the mild winter of 2011-12, which I don't believe had any snow for anybody around here.
