"Meteorological" Spring begins on Saturday but Old Man Winter refuses to leave the stage. Another Polar Vortex (Arctic outbreak) is plunging out of Canada with more below zero temps heading into the lower 48. Fortunately for us, the dip in the East Coast trough will not be as drastic as several weeks ago, plus the higher sun angle should temper the severity of the chill here. BUT a light freeze is likely on the North Shore for Thursday morning & maybe again on Friday. Say what? How can that be when highs for Tuesday could top 70 again. Well this Winter is more like those of the late 70s when the chill lingered into March & April. The core of this next blast should stay to our north, but anyone who has planted any tender plants during the recent warm spell should know precautions may be needed to save those "tender vegetations".
In the short term, Tuesday looks OK. We could see a few passing showers around midday, but rain amounts will be light. Rain chances increase toward midnight into midday on Wednesday when some heavy amounts (1-2") could create some flooding issues. Temperatures will fall into the 40s Wednesday PM & heavy coats will be required. Thursday will dry out but stay chilly with highs in the 50s.
