With 14 days left in "Meteorological" Winter, temperatures are finally showing the effects of a daily higher sun angle...at least over the southern states. Much of Texas topped 90 degrees with some spots near 100. With the polar jet stream retreating back into Canada for the next week, we'll enjoy Spring-like warmth over much of the nation south of Oklahoma City to Memphis to Atlanta line. Highs next week should top 70 every day with an increasing threat of daily morning fog. We're not done with cold air as the following week looks to be back to heavy coats. It's far too soon to replant your gardens or put out the tomatoes unless you have a way of covering them. The last week of February is likely to bring another Arctic outbreak (Polar Vortex 7) over the Great Lakes & Northeast that could mean March will "Roar in like a Lion" up there. Stay tuned!
In the short term, tonight's weak cold front will only bring slightly cooler temps for Saturday as all day sunshine should get us back into the lower 60s. You'll need sweaters & jackets thru the noon hour. Sunday looks warmer with plenty of sun and highs near 70. It's a good weekend to do some yard clean up. I've re-roofed my 2 story 8 hole birdhouse, added 2 coats of fresh paint just in time for Spring mating. Hotel Breck will be open for da birds on Sunday. Enjoy your weekend.
