Yep, sure doesn't take much for folks to get stirred up about the Tropics. As the 2014 Hurricane season begins, NHC comes out with an OUTLOOK for later this week that says there is a "20% chance" that something could develop in the southern Gulf. On cue, callers start coming..."where's the disturbance in the Gulf"! Get a grip folks...there is NOTHING there yet, plus we have an UPPER low over the western Gulf that is creating lots of wind shear...a hostile environment for tropical development. I'm more concerned about getting the upper low over the Gulf to move or weaken so we can get out of our rainy pattern that has dumped over a foot of rain on many areas around SE LA. Officially we ended up as the 10th wettest May (8.35"), no where near the record (21+") back in 1995. The main benefit is our highs have not reach 90 yet at MSY. That should change this week as an upper ridge should build over us from the west decreasing our rain chances and increasing our temperatures. Get ready to really start sweating as we are now in Meteorological Summer for the next 3 months.
I'm on WRNO 99.5 FM at 8:20 Monday morning with Denny Shaffer talking about hurricanes. FYI
