Harvey Hype At Full Throttle...

As the daylight (visible) satellite loop shows Harvey trying to gain an eye,  social media and the major networks are going crazy with their doom & gloom scenarios, some of which include bringing Harvey back to Louisiana next week.  Here’s what we do know…Harvey will be a strong (Cat 1-2 or 3) hurricane at landfall bringing 10-15 inches of rain to the Texas coast.  He is moving to the NW at a steady pace of 10 mph.  As he gets better defined, computer models should be more accurate on his future path.  However, much like yesterday, the models stall Harvey for 2 days over Texas before slowly moving Harvey back over the Gulf & towards Louisiana for NEXT week.   Will we have to worry about impacts from Harvey?  In the short term (Friday-Sunday) the answer is NO.  In the longer term (Monday-Thursday) it depends on where what’s left of Harvey goes.  IF he stalls and drifts farther inland or back to the SW (Less likely), then we will NOT need to worry.  IF  the remains of Harvey stall for 2 days and then begin to head back to the NE… NEXT WEEK,  we would likely see flooding rains here.    BUT…That is 5 days away.  It’s easy to get on the band wagon and over hype the potential danger (better safe than sorry), but that’s not me.   This is a slow moving storm.  We will have plenty of time to react/get supplies/board up IF Harvey comes our way.  My big complaint has been…what if you always cry wolf but the wolf never comes?  You lose the confidence of the people to respond.   Let’s take a deep breath, understand the “possible” potential danger and be ready to take the necessary actions when needed.  For us, if the worst case scenario happens, our crunch time will be Tuesday thru Thursday.  Saturday’s Saint’s game will not be affected.   Here’s what I want you to pay attention to…1) forward motion, if it stays 10+ mph, then the mass/acceleration law should bring Harvey well inland. 2)  The track…any deflection to the left is better for us.  I will be looking for that now that you can track the eye on radar.    There remains so much uncertainty long term.   David has been giving excellent reasons for the uncertainty.  I suggest you watch him.   Currently there are no indications FOX 8 needs my services.  Stay tuned!
