My yard has received over 5” of rain the past 3 days and could use a drying out. Monday should see more slow moving downpours before fewer showers are around for Tuesday and no rain on Wednesday & Thursday. A late August front will bring us drier air (lower dew points) and that should result in cooler morning lows, especially on the North Shore. By Friday, south winds return the muggies and increase our chances for rain again. Models show nothing happening as this front pushes into the Gulf, but remember that is how Alicia formed back in August of 1983. We always pay attention to any front pushing into the Gulf in August and September. One thing working on our side is the MJO remains in the unfavorable (sinking air) phase. That should keep any tropical activity to a minimum in our part of the globe. Tonight’s satellite loops find several waves coming off of Africa with small hints of circulation, but NHC doesn’t feel they merit attention just yet. We only need another 6 weeks till October and I’ll start to feel pretty good about avoiding any major hurricane threat this season. We can get October Hurricane threats, however, most are steered to our east and do not have the intensity of those coming out of the Caribbean. Let’s enjoy this weak front coming late Tuesday and hope it’s a sign of many more to come during September & October. Colder air cools water temps & weakens any tropical system. The northern & central plains will have temps in the 50s by daybreak. Bring ‘em down! Stay tuned!
