Signs Of Fall...

Before we can get welcomed cooling relief down south, it has to first get colder up north.   Such is the case tonight where the Dakotas are in the 50s with most of Montana & Wyoming in the 40s.  Snow was reported at the higher elevations and that chill will be overtaking much of the Rockies while a late summer heat wave builds over the East.    The typical Bermuda High/Atlantic Ridge is in place for the next week over the Southeast bringing deep tropical moisture to us.  It will result in night time showers along our coast redeveloping inland during daytime heating.  The rains will be briefly intense tropical downpours dumping 1-2” in spots while others nearby receive very little.  This should keep highs generally under 90 for most of this week.  Our next front could arrive during the second week in September if the models are correct.   That’s still 12-14 days away.

I’m almost stunned that NHC is not highlighting any areas for development in the 3-5 day time frame over the central Atlantic.   David even pointed out several waves moving off of Africa and one of them appears to have some rotation.  In addition, many models are showing activity organizing out in the Atlantic and hinting that the northern & western Gulf could have development during the second week of September.  Right now, there is nothing to follow.  However, all signs point for an active September after a quiet 2 ½ months of no activity.   The next 5-6 weeks will be “pay attention” time.  Stay tuned!
