Still Way Too Hot...

OK, it was pretty obvious that a front went through overnight as yesterday’s clouds & storms were gone replaced with all day sunshine.  Yes the humidity was lower, but we still reached 92.   Even though the sun angle is getting lower and the nights longer, it will take several real cold fronts to knock down water temps which currently are in the mid to upper 80s.   With Lake P. at 88 degrees, the north winds coming across it tonight are not cool winds.   The 9 PM temp at the airport in Kenner was still 87!   Thursday should stay dry with plenty of sunshine and highs back into the lower 90s.  Rain chances will slowly inch up as we head into the weekend (2% Thursday, 20% Friday, 30-40% Saturday, 50-60% Sunday).  Higher rain chances should result in less hot temps perhaps staying “only” in the upper 80s.   There are no signs of another front coming until well into September.

All of the Tropical news is centered on Hawaii as Hurricane Lane is starting his curve to the north.  It appears his centerline track will stay far enough west of the islands to prevent this from becoming a destructive wind maker.  However, it appears the main threat will be heavy flooding rains that could exceed 10-15 inches over parts of the island chain.   The Atlantic remains dead, however, NHC is saying a tropical wave could move off of Africa during the next 3-5 days with a 205 chance of development.  Right now, there is nothing there as their thinking is based on several computer models hinting a system COULD form.   As we approach the peak of the season, this is what is SUPPOSED to happen…tropical waves coming off of Africa heading through the MDR (Main Development Region).  Last summer many of the waves turned into super strong Hurricanes.  This year is far different so far and it doesn’t appear it will change anytime soon.   Look for September to have a burst of activity and much of that could be in our part of the World.  But for the time being, there is nothing to track and the models are not incicating any development in the Caribbean or Gulf for the rest of this month.   The weak front that has moved down into the Gulf shows very few clouds tonight.  Enjoy the quiet for now.  Stay tuned!
