End of Summer This Week...

The Autumnal Equinox (Fall) arrives next Saturday (9-22) so this is technically the last week of summer.  Today’s high shattered the old record of 96 as we hit 98, which is expected in mid-August, but not in mid-September.  Cold air is showing up in Canada, but models don’t bring it down to us until the last week of this month.    Even I (warm weather freak) am looking forward to some cooler weather, especially at night.    The circulation of Florence has brought us a drier pattern, and without clouds & showers, we’ll be flirting with more records for much of this week.  Florence is on the move, but her rain shield is still soaking North Carolina.   The remains of Isaac still has some T-Storms as it moves near Jamaica, and NHC is giving it a 20% chance for redevelopment.    That is the only thing to track as the rest of the Tropics have gone quiet.  Why?  Mainly because the MJO (Madden-Julian Oscillation) has moved into the sinking air phase.  That will last for the next 7-10 days before it returns to the rising phase for the last week in September into early October.   We will probably see another burst of storm activity then and we will have to pay attention until those real Fall cold fronts start coming.  Pay attention to our current heat as heat exhaustion & heat stroke remain real dangers if you’re working or exercising outdoors.  Stay tuned!
