Wind Chill Overkill?

Is it just me, or have you noticed how all weather programs (national & local) focus on the wind chill temperature & not the REAL temperature?  Could it be they want to make the people believe the cold is worse than it is?   I dunno.  When I was on-air I did sometimes use wind chill, but only after showing what the actual temperature was.   Saw on the internet where the Kentucky Governor thought we were raising a "soft generation".   Yep, it's cold, but this has happened many times before in January.   Sure, be cautious  when it comes to our children's safety.   Use common sense when the real temperatures drop below zero.  But our Fathers & Grandfathers had it far worse.   The clothing back then had no Gortex, the transportation usually by foot, yet they survived.   Maybe the Kentucky Governor is on to something?

Locally, a cloud cover kept our lows this morning well above freezing on the South Shore and I don't see another freeze threat coming until late next week at the soonest.   Models are forecasting a huge warm up for the rest of this week into early next week, but more bitter cold is likely to return to the Great Lakes and SE making the warm up short lived.    We will keep warming every day with several weak upper disturbances bringing a few showers Friday PM through the weekend.  All in all, not a bad finish to January and a start to February for us.   I will get my potted plants back outside tomorrow so they can get several days of occasional sunshine.  I might even spread some Bonus S weed & feed as I've noticed some weeds beginning to show up in my lawn.   One more month before Meteorological Spring begins!     Lots of Winter cold yet to come.  Stay tuned!
