I remember many years where certain parades had great weather year after year while other kept getting the rain and/or cold. Last night's rains quickly pulled away and lots of cooler (not cold) and drier air filtered in to make today's parades delightful to roll & watch. Our next major front won't arrive until early on Saturday, but the weather this week will have several unsettled periods as a couple of weak upper disturbances race across the Gulf South. It will be difficult to nail down the timing, but the higher chances for rain appear to be Tuesday, Thursday and early Saturday. A sharp drop in temperatures will follow the Saturday front and it will then stay chilly right on through Mardi Gras. As long as it stays dry, folks can handle the chill.
I mentioned several posts ago that I thought the Spillway would be opened due to heavy rainfall over the Ohio River Valley. This past weekend more heavy rain fell. The Corps of Engineers has a press conference Monday morning detailing when they will open the Spillway. Typically IF the Spillway has to be opened, it's in April and/or May when the northern snowmelt adds into the Spring rains. To open it in late February is quite unusual. The steering pattern for the next several weeks appears to keep blasting California with the storm track then heading across the plains into the Ohio River Valley. We could have high river water for many, many weeks, possibly months. Stay tuned!
