After being near record warmth for several days, the coming cool down will feel drastic but is typical for this time of the year. We have the normal battle of the seasons with retreating Winter Chill trying to hang on against increasing Spring Warmth. The frontal boundary (wind shift) is approach Baton Rouge at 8 PM, however the cold air is hanging back over Texas and won't reach us until after daybreak on Friday. Highs will be set before dawn with slowly falling temperatures into the 50s during the day. This will not be a clean front as SW upper flow will over run the surface front creating a cold rain situation that will linger into early on Saturday. Most of the rain should be gone by 9 AM, but temperatures will remain in the 50s all day with a crisp north wind. Sunshine should return for Sunday's Metairie Irish parade as highs climb back into the low to mid 60s. Next week looks to stay on the cooler side with highs mainly 65-70. The good news is much drier air will make it feel really nice instead of all this Gulf moisture and muggy, sticky feel. It will be nice to wear sweaters again!
The Mississippi River is cresting now, but another crest already is approaching Memphis. This will ensure the need to keep the Spillway open for many more weeks as the northern snow melt is added to the equation. Stay tuned!
