Are They Crying Wolf Again?

As many of you know, I was not here for the last severe weather event.   By all indications, Thursday will be a much greater risk for severe storms versus last week.  However, there were several (more than 2) people on the golf course today asking me..."why do you guys keep scaring us & then nothing happens?"   Since I wasn't here over the weekend, I don't know if local weathercasters were 'scaring" you regarding last week's severe threat.  I do know that if you do keep crying wolf, but the wolf never comes, folks will be less likely to react  when the wolf finally shows up.  That's why I was VERY cautious forecasting severe weather 1-2 days in advance.  Lots has changed since I left the business & I must tell you there is almost too much information (Tornado Potential, Storm Environment, Storm Energy) given to viewers.   My motto was 1) trust the SPC (Storm prediction Center) guidance.  If they placed us in risk area 2 or higher (which we are for Thursday), then severe storms will probably happen.  2)   Instead of showing various models & timing differences & adding in way too many graphics with globs of colors, I tried to stick with the basics...water vapor loop + regional radar views tying in the upper energy with what was happening down at the surface.   I watched several local weathercasters this evening and they all are singing from the same songbook, which is good as I believe in the SPC's guidance placing us in the level 3 risk for Thursday.    I'm biased toward David as I like his calming demeanor, but whomever you watch, take their word that Thursday is a PAY ATTENTION weather day.   Overhype?   Not this time.  Make sure you have the FOX 8 weather app on your phone so you will not be caught off guard.

Once the strong upper trough pulls eastward by Friday PM, cooler and drier air will filter in for the weekend.  Sweaters & jackets will be needed for Friday (50s & 60s with wind) but Saturday and Sunday look great for this Easter weekend.

FYI...My brother-in-law Jerry has left the hospital and is now in a rehab center for 3 weeks.  Keep your prayer open for him.  Stay tuned!
