This past weekend I headed to Oklahoma City to see my first grandchild (Ethan), but unfortunately once there, I became very sick. I was able to hold the baby the first day but then fever took over and I was banished to the back bedroom. It's been a difficult 4 days dealing with a raw throat & general achiness, but after seeing my ENT Doc & getting my usual shot & drugs, I'm beginning to feel better. I was on the other side of the front in Oklahoma City where the nights were in the 50s...felt good.
There is a classic battleground setting up for severe storms and more heavy rainfall. At this time of the year, fronts have trouble pushing down off the Gulf Coast so it will be crucial to see how far south the frontal boundary sets up. RIGHT NOW, it appears the main severe threat will stay to our north and west along with the heaviest rain totals. 5 day totals will exceed 4-8" so flooding is likely in many areas. This will not help the flooding woes coming down the Mississippi River during the next 3-4 weeks. High water continues all the way north of Cairo and if these heavy rain outbreaks keep coming, it will not surprise me to see the Corps of Engineers reopen the Spillway. There are signs long range (7-10+days) for us to dry out and heat up with our first heat wave coming after the 20th. It's time to great ready for dem 90s. Stay tuned!
