Chantal Coming?

NHC is giving an area of disturbed weather NE of Cuba a 20% chance of developing during the next 5 days.  The visible (daylight) satellite loop has a low level cloud swirl that is heading towards Florida.  Fortunately for us, a deep upper trough will drag a cold front off our coast by late Tuesday blocking any impacts from Invest 94L from coming our way.  If this system did develop, it would happen somewhere east of Charleston or Myrtle Beach.  Again, NHC is only giving it a 20% chance to be Chantal.     Today we are seeing more slow moving T-Storms develop with clusters of storms down over the Gulf in response to an upper low centered just south of us.  As that low pulls farther to the west on Monday, we might see fewer storms, but I expect many of us will get wet this afternoon.  Slow movers equal some heavy rain totals & brief street flooding so be prepared if you are out driving around.  As the front approaches on Tuesday, rain coverage will go back up before we dry out for Wednesday and Thursday.  All models then dissipate the front over the Gulf with low level moisture returning for late Friday and especially on Saturday.   All in all, that is not a terrible forecast for this week's Grand Isle Tarpon Rodeo which begins at daybreak on Thursday and ends with the awards presentation on Saturday.  You can register at Chag's or Puglia's in Metairie or go on line at www.tarponrodeo.org .  Registration not only gives you a chance at winning a beautiful trophy & gift certificate in 30 different categories, but it also gives you the opportunity to win the grand prize.  This year it's a 22' Blazer Bay boat powered by a 150 hp Mercury outboard motor with a MotorGuide Great White trolling motor all resting on a Sport Trail galvanized trailer.   Don't fish Grand Isle?  No problem as you can win the boat just by registering on line.  Stay tuned!
