Get Ready Grand Isle, Weather & Tides Lining up Perfectly...

It's been over 3 months since I last fished, and that was down on Grand Isle in April.   Haven't been to fish Shell Beach with Hylton since March 5th, before they opened the Spillway again.  So you can imagine how I'm chomping at the bit to wet a line.   The Grand Isle Tarpon rodeo begins at daybreak on Thursday and each day fishing should get better and better as tides will be high at dawn falling most of the day and increasing as we head towards the weekend.  Winds look to be strongest on Wednesday behind a cold front with winds decreasing each day.  That should result in some fantastic offshore catches with perhaps some record size fish caught including Tarpon.   You can register at www.tarpon rodeo.org and win a great trophy PLUS a $50 gift certificate at Sureway's Super Market on the island.  Crab races for the kids, a new Kayak division for the first time plus some great music every night.  It's Tarpon Rodeo Time and our 2019 President Jim Henderson is ready to party!

Alright, NHC did upgrade Invest 94L to TD # 3, but from what I'm seeing (a weak mid level swirl north of Freeport) on satellite loops, we may have to wait until August for Chantal to be named.  TD #3 is heading NNW towards increasing wind shear and it would be another waste of a storm name if NHC upgraded it to a Tropical Storm tonight or tomorrow.  A cold front will with strong upper SW winds should blow it out to sea by Wednesday.

Locally, the big story will be that front, but we have to get through a stormy Tuesday first.  It won't rain all day but I suspect there will be several rounds of thunder & lightning during the day.  Winds turn to the north on Wednesday bringing down much drier and slightly cooler (especially at night North Shore) air for Wednesday night into Friday morning.  The muggies will return along with typical Summer rain chances on Friday afternoon through Sunday.
