They are infrequent, but every few summers a cold front pushes off our coast down into the Gulf. With water temperatures 85-90, it's hard for much cool air to reach us, but it has happened before, like in July 1947...the year of my birth! The low at MSY reached 67 degrees to set a record that still stands. It's likely never to be broken since population growth has surrounded the airport. We won't see 60s with this front unless you live on the North Shore or away from Lake P. south. Still, the humidity is so much lower making it feel much nicer. It won't last long as the front will stall and quickly return to the north on Friday. With the return of low level moisture, rain chances will increase by Friday & especially over the weekend. The key question then becomes, will low pressure spin up in the front down over the Gulf this weekend? I'm encouraged that NHC has NOT increased that probability keeping it at 20% with models hinting at a weak low, but all are not bullish on development AT THIS TIME. As I leave for Grand Isle, I'm expecting the weather to be OK and not go into the dumper. If something starts to happen, I'll have a special update from down on the island. I hope many of you will come join us and meet our 2019 Rodeo President Jim Henderson. Go to www.tarponrodeo.org to register and let's go catch some fish! Stay tuned!
