As we end July and "welcome" August, tropical activity begins to ramp up as waves coming off of Africa head westward into the Atlantic. Every season roughly 80-100 such waves show up, but only 10% (10-12) ever develop into Tropical Storms or Hurricanes. One such wave has moved into the Eastern Caribbean tonight and appears to have a low level circulation. NHC is giving it a 20% chance for development during the next 5 days as it heads towards the Bahamas or Florida. Another well defined circulation is way out in the eastern Atlantic and we'll have many days to watch its progress. Locally, our rain chances have returned and will be there every day this week as opposed to that nice dry feel of last week. More clouds & showers will keep us less hot as we are in the 2 hottest weeks (historically) of the year.
The 2019 Grand Isle Tarpon Fishing Rodeo was a great success with lots of folks coming down to meet me and our Rodeo President Jim Henderson. We thank all you and your kind comments. All Hail Grand Isle! Special thanks to the Candies Family and our guide Pat Bellanger who help us catch some fish. I've been going to the Rodeo since 1982 and can't remember any year that did not have a Tarpon brought to the weigh station. This year is the first, although we did have one Tarpon that was caught and released. Plenty of other big fish were caught and the weather mostly cooperated. Looking forward to seeing you back on the Island for a great time next July. Stay tuned!
