IF we were in August or September, this track would bring the brunt of the storm over SE LA, however, water temps over the northern Gulf have cooled into the 70s and very cold air covers all of the western Gulf with 40s & 50s all the way down to Brownsville. We will be on the wet side of future Olga and I mentioned last night, heavy rainfall will be the major issue. Most of NOLA already has received 2-3" of rain and satellite pictures indicate more heavy rainfall is offshore to our SW. Don't be surprised to see an additional 2-4" with rain totals topping 5-7"+.
With so much cold air on the western side, I'm surprised NHC doesn't call this system "sub-tropical. There could be some wind gusts to 60+ along the coast later this evening and over night, but the main threat for NOLA is more heavy rains. The good news is this system will be a fast moving (currently north at 16 mph) and most of the rain will be over shortly after sunrise on Saturday. I'll have another update later this afternoon. No need to change any plans for this evening as the worst of the rains will come between 10 PM and dawn on Saturday. Stay tuned!
