We're # 2, But Could Be # 1 tonight...

As I mentioned in my last post, this will be one of the wettest Octobers on record with an opportunity to become # one IF we get another 2+" overnight. As of 6 pm, our monthly total is 11.02" trailing October 1985 by only 2.18".

Do we have a chance?  You bet as satellite loops show some heavy storms south of the Louisiana coast while radar already has a cluster of storms moving onshore around Morgan City.

Of course what we face is nothing like what is happening out west.  The videos of the wild fires are down right scary and reminds us we often have days to flee from a hurricane.  For a wildfire, sometimes it's only minutes notice to evacuate and flee.  With winds sometimes of hurricane force, you cannot outrun a wildfire.  So are the wildfires worse now?  Absolutely!  In 1950, 10 million plus lived in California.  Today that number is around 40 million with many of those folks building up on hillsides and in valleys that before had very few homes in/on them.   Now we see whole neighborhoods burn up.  It's not climate change, it's people change.  Stay tuned!
