While watching all the precautions to be taken during our recent cold spell, I saw a story that said you no longer should warm your car up when we get frigid cold weather. Why? Seems all newer cars engines have fuel injection systems and no longer have a carburetor. I remember in my youth, cars had a "choke" switch that you pulled out when the engines were cold. Modern technology has made all of that obsolete. In fact, an article in POPULAR MECHANICS says warm your car for only 30 seconds and then drive it. If you let it idle for several minutes to warm up, you could actually damage your engine! Just passing on some info in case you missed it.
We have a weak upper low passing very close to Houston with a sharp clearing line to their west. Under the clouds, temperatures remain in the 40s while it's in the mid to upper 50s back in the sunshine.
The core of the cold is now to our east and a slow warm up will begin Friday PM and continue into most of next week. This weekend looks to be fabulous with plenty of sunshine and comfy cool temps. The upper low over Texas will trigger a strong surface low off the Carolinas on Friday staying just offshore the east coast for Saturday. That should keep the Tulane vs Temple game breezy, cold but dry, the LSU game chilly but dry and almost perfect for the Saints (except breezy) in Tampa on Sunday. We'll see a gradual warming for most of next week with highs topping 70 by Wednesday. I'll be focusing in on Thanksgiving travel weather the following week. Stay tuned!
