Southern California Snow...

Most people know & have heard of the mountains around Lake Tahoe and how much snow they receive every Winter.   Many don't know that there are smaller mountains that ring the Los Angeles area in southern California and they sometimes get snow too.  Such was the case yesterday and it clearly shows up on the daylight satellite pictures.

That white is not fog or clouds but snow on the ground.  That is helping keep temps. rather chilly despite sunshine.
Much of the lower 48 states are covered with clouds as a storm heads into the Rockies and northern plains.  That front will bring us a better shower threat on Sunday with only these nuisance showers that we have today.

The super cold has shifted back into Alaska with many stations minus 50 or colder!

We'll see our first coold down Sunday making New Year's week colder, but the real chill will arrive during the first 1-2 perhaps 3 weeks in January when I expect several heavy snowstorms to batter the nation.   Could some of that white stuff reach deep down into the Gulf South?  Stay tuned!
