Travel Troubles, New MSY Review, Family Time...

I'll take them in reverse order beginning with family time.  My wife & I spent Thanksgiving in Oklahoma visiting our grandson who is almost 8 months.

Talk about the apple not falling far from the tree...as soon as Ethan sees the cell phone camera, his face lights up with a smile that makes BeBe & Pops feel great.  Thanks to Emily & Justin for giving us Ethan & being such good hosts.  Now on to the new MSY.  I've learned long ago NOT to travel on holidays.  We left MSY last Tuesday for OKC and had no issues at all.  No long lines, no delays (except in Houston) with the feeling NOLA has an airport to be proud of.  However, coming back Saturday PM, we had the same issues as the old airport.   It took 38 minutes for bags to get from the plane to the carousels.  Even through there were several carousels not in use, it seems airlines keep using the same one for multiple arriving airplanes.  Dumb.   So we get our bags and start looking for the taxi signage.  Nope doesn't exist until you get to the exit doors after asking an attendant for directions.  The wait for a cab to Metairie was only 5 minutes, but I did notice the overhang from the terminal does NOT cover where the cabs pick up the passengers.  Don't they know it rains here often?  What brilliant engineer designed that?    In addition, the traffic coming into the airport to pick passengers up was a nightmare.  The cab driver told us you'd be better going into the short term garage and paying the 2 bucks meeting your friends as they pass outside security.   And this was not on the main travel day (today).  All in all, I like our new airport and ,with tweaks, should get better with time.  Back to the weather.

The thin ribbon line offshore was the cold front that moved through before dawn.  Very little rain was with it and the cool down is not drastic.   The next 2-3 days will be delightful, if you are dressed for the morning chill.   Nationwide, it's a different story.

An upper low over the Ohio Valley is weakening while a surface storm forms off New England.  Airport delays are in the hours with many flights cancelled. Another system is causing delays in California, but nowhere near what the eastern system is doing.  We should escape with no weather issues this week with a gradual warm up back into the 70s by Thursday & Friday.  Oh, FYI, hurricane season ended yesterday!  Stay tuned!

I agree, with all the money spent, they should have a cover for people that are being picked up or dropped off, that is where the old airport was better.

Right on, Bob! Great suggestions for airport improvements. You should formally present them to MSY administration AND ask for a hefty consultant’s fee!
