Alaskan Cold On The Move...

I mentioned several posts back that Ch. 8 Meteorologist Zack Fradella pointed out, if Alaska is super cold, it usually results in the Southeast U.S. being very mild.   That's because there's an upper ridge over the SE with the trough over the western states.  It's still very cold (30-40 below zero) in Alaska, but the core of the Super Cold (50-60 below zero) has shifted into Canada.  Computer models have been shifting the western trough to the east coast for the last 10 days of January and that will mean a drastic change from our Spring-like weather (80+ today) to highs in the 40s & 50s next week with a freeze on the North Shore and away from the Lake south.

We are seeing sunshine today and that has really warmed us up.   Lots of clouds and showers are along a frontal boundary to our north and that front will sag a little closer on Wednesday & Thursday.

Most of the rain will remain north of the Lake and that front will return northward on Friday keeping us in the warm air.  The first surge of Arctic air arrives on Sunday that will have us all diving back into our heavy coats.   We may need to bring our tender potted plants back into our sheds/greenhouses on Sunday so the cold next week doesn't kill them.   Once we get into the cold air, then we have to watch for a Gulf low developing later next week.  That could bring some snow fairly close to us.  Too soon to get excited.

We were plenty excited last night as OUR Tigers brought home the trophy.  I knew LSU would score 40+.  Watch how other college teams try to copy-cat LSU's offense next year.  One big difference?  They don't have Joe Burrow!  What a season! what a coach! what a team!  Stay tuned!
