How Lush Is Your Garden...

One of the neat things about retirement is you are now allowed to do "fun stuff" that you didn't have time for while you earned a living.  I've gotten into gardening and getting plants to grow & flowers to bloom.

While my yard looks lush, there are some signs that make me nervous.  For instance, my grapefruit tree still has 75+ fruit, but it has started to sprout out new growth.  I know it won't be long before blossoms start coming out, but we're only in January.
The next 2 weeks are ,historically, the coldest each Winter and according to computer models, a big dip is coming back to the East Coast for next week.
So it doesn't take a "rocket scientist" to look northward and see the kind of cold air lurking up in Canada.  Sure the chill will moderate on its journey southward, ut the point here is, next week looks to be way colder than this week and the first half of January.  In fact, we topped 80 again today and likely set a new record high.

The next weather challenge will be how cold will it get?  RIGHT NOW, a light to moderate freeze is likely for the North Shore Monday - Thursday with the South Shore staying above freezing.  We really need to have a cool spell as trees (Tulip) & plants are beginning to bud out.
In the short term, the upper SW flow will keep us in some clouds with a weak front getting close by Thursday PM.  That front returns northward on Friday with the next colder front coming late on Saturday.  That front should finally clear away the low clouds and fog with even colder air arriving for Tuesday and Wednesday.   Fear not you cold freaks, Winter is far from done.  Stay tuned!
