Mother Nature appears to be co-operating as the only rain chances come on Monday ahead of a weak front. meaning, parades through Fat Tuesday should roll mostly dry. If you're dressed for it, the weather, though cold, will be near perfect warming to near 70+ on Sunday & Monday.
Seasonally chilly air covers much of the nation and once the sun sets, we are likely to see 27-31 across much of the North Shore, 30-35 away from the Lake South Shore, with 34-38 closer to Lake P. I am moving some of my tender plants back into my "He Shed" tonight. Even colder air (35-40 below zero) lurks up over northern Canada and models are hinting that air mass will plunge our way after Mardi Gras.
Saturday will see all day sunshine with some clouds returning on Sunday with milder temps. A few showers Monday PM could make for a semi-wet Orpheus parade Monday night, but models show the rain gone for the parades on Mardi Gras. You can see the start of that dreaded SW upper flow comin from the west coast.
Finally, though we are in one of the colder spells this Winter, all in all, it has been very mild for much of the nation. The lack of snow cover is apparent as all of the white on these satellite pics indicate snow on the ground.
This is good news since the Mississippi River at the Carrollton gage has topped 15' again and is forecasted to crest at 16.5' in early March. The Corps says, RIGHT NOW, they are not expecting to open the Spillway. Look at the Great Lakes...no ice! Only the Rockies have had a cold and snowy Winter. But Winter is not over yet! Stay tuned!
