Increased hail Threat...

I was watching David's 5 pm program and he showed a new graphic from SPC that hatched in an area that included us for a higher risk for large hail later tonight and tomorrow.

Right now the worst weather remains to our north and west with a Tornado Watch for a large part of Louisiana.  These storms have lots of lightning with them and that could be the case for us towards daybreak.

Here's the set up at the surface.  A deepening surface low is along the TX/OK border with a warm front to the east and a trailing cold front to the SW.   We are in the warm air sector and over night lows will stay in the 70s.  In addition, there's a surge in dewpoints (moisture) that will spread over us during the next few hours.

But (as Lee Zurik would say) there's more as a potent upper disturbance is along the KS/OK border.  All of the ingredients are there for some severe storms late tonight into midday on Thursday.
Bottom line, check with David at 9 & 10 pm and make sure your FOX 8 weather app is all ready to go over night in case any warnings are issued.  I think heavy rainfall will be limited to 1-2" at worst with the bigger concern being some larger hail & damaging winds IF a squall line develops during the day on Thursday.  Drier air will filter in behind the front with slightly cooler air over the weekend.  Stay alert, stay home & stay tuned!
